For many municipal governments, drinking water and wastewater plants typically are the largest energy consumers, often accounting for 30 to 40 percent of total energy consumed. Utilizing an energy Audit to help find opportunities for improvement can help to increase efficiency and reduce energy consumption. EPA provides opportunities for funding audits and improvements.
Wesley Engineering Services
Service to understand a community’s current energy usage profiles and to help further their objectives of decreasing energy consumption, lowering energy costs, decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, and increasing use of renewable energy. This is free with a CAP plan.
Allegheny County Economic Development (ACED)
Provides financial assistance to municipalities, non-profit organizations, and councils of governments to develop community plans and design transportation projects that will, when implemented, provide bicycle and pedestrian connections to important local destinations and transportation systems and increase residents’ opportunities for physical activity.
Pennsylvania Department of Economic Development
Funds projects which involve development, rehabilitation and improvements to public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails and river conservation.
Pennsylvania Department of Economic Development
Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
The PA Department of Environmental Protection offers grants to municipalities under 500,000 to prepare their own greenhouse gas inventories and climate action plans in accordance with the Pennsylvania Climate Action Plan
Sustainable Pennsylvania, a joint project of the Pennsylvania Municipal League and Sustainable Pittsburgh, is a voluntary performance recognition program designed to help municipalities set and achieve sustainability goals, save money, conserve resources, and foster a vibrant community.
The Pennsylvania Municipal League is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization established in 1900 as an advocate for Pennsylvania’s 3rd class cities. Today, The League represents participating Pennsylvania cities, boroughs, townships, home rule communities and towns that all share The League’s municipal policy interests.
